If you haven’t read Harold’s story this book won’t have the same impact. It’s a short read but no less powerful than a tone two or three times the size. I’ve enjoyed the authors other books so I couldn’t wait to read Maureen Fry and the Angel of North. 1 WINTER 20 October 2022, e-book, 144 pages, ARC from the publisher via NetGalley) All she knows is that she must get there. However, SAG-AFTRA’s position - one that is endemic of the entire entertainment industry - exacerbates the suppression of American Indian involvement in mainstream media production by claiming that the simple act of stating one’s Native American identity is unlawful.” “As a matter of fact, there are many government programs designed specifically to incentivize such actions. “It is not illegal for SAG-AFTRA, or any other entertainment guild/union, to acknowledge or request tribal enrollment verification,” says Running Wolf. He promises, “This is going to be culturally authentic.”Īll this comes at a time when Native American actor and activist Myrton Running Wolf ( The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) is petitioning SAG-AFTRA to reverse its policy of not recognizing tribal enrollment ( SAG-AFTRA has maintained it is illegal to request tribal verification from potential Native American employees or show preference based on it). Alexie, who grew up on the reservation depicted in the book, is adapting the screenplay and will executive produce. You have some characters come over to the other series but mostly these series are kept divided. Some books concentrate more on the institutional aspect but that is not in abundance to cause a reader to become bored because even that is exciting. Though religion and politics are the crux of these series, the human interactions are the key which makes the story exciting to read. Not everyone ends up happy and some seem to be happy but troubles may come ahead. Sometimes you can guess how things are going to turn up but many times there were a tremendous amount of surprises. Don't get me wrong I loved it but I did not think that as I read on that these two series were quite the treasure that they ended up for me! The next in the series started more characters interplay and social issue combined which continued to be Trollope's formula for success throughout. When I began with "The Warden", I had no idea what a ride I was in for because though I enjoyed that book, it was lacking a little for me. Having just finished his last in the series, I wanted to comment about the whole before going on with the book review. About every month, I would come back to familiar settings and characters and especially wondering how it will all end. For the last 15 months, I have enjoyed entering Trollope's England, Barchester and the Duke of Omnium's world. Women like Williamina Fleming, Annie Jump Cannon, Henrietta Swan Leavitt, Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin and Antonia Maury made their mark in astronomy (and history!) here by studying these glass plates and publishing their findings in their own name. The documents are also relevant to the history of women in science as the collection contains material produced by the Harvard Computers. The material represents the history of the Harvard College Observatory and comprises remarkable examples of primary source material showing the evolution of observation methods, along with early astronomy as a whole. These early notebooks and other materials are absolutely irreplaceable. Recently, research material originally produced during the mid-to-late 19th and early 20th centuries by researchers at the Harvard College Observatory was re-discovered in the HCO Plate Stacks holdings. Interested in historical women? Love astronomy? Help us transcribe the work of the Harvard Observatory's women computers and see which stars shine the brightest. In these books, follow the work of Annie Jump Cannon, who in 1901 devised a robust and elegant stellar classification scheme that astronomers still use today. Several of them made game-changing discoveries in astronomy and astrophysics. Here they catalogued stars, identifying variables, interpreting stellar spectra, counting galaxies, and measuring the vast distances in space. At Harvard College Observatory (now the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics), Women Astronomical Computers studied glass plate photographs of the night sky. Ultimately, Westerfeld's ( Midnighters Hunter weaves in compelling stories, such as how purple became associated with royalty, and draws a parallel between the spreading of trends and a flu epidemic. There's fun to be had (at the party, rich guests get shampoo samples that turn out to be purple dye), and while readers may lose track of pieces of the plot (or not quite believe the roller skating leader of the underground), they will get swept up in the mystery. They depend on other cool hunters, from tech-savvy Lexa to high-society Hillary, to help decipher the clues, and they take risks themselves (going undercover to a posh party, breaking into buildings). The pair begins their search for Mandy and the people behind the shoes, before the "bad guys" get Hunter. Aptly-named Hunter spots street trends for "a certain shoe company named after a certain Greek god." When he meets Jen, he notices her unique shoelaces, and realizes she is an Innovator, a person who invents trends (he's a Trendsetter, someone who is "cool, so when they pick up an innovation, it becomesĬool").
